It never fails—I tell someone I work at Girl Scouts and they respond by telling me how quickly a sleeve of Thin Mints disappears at their house. Cookies are our jam. Girl Scouts and cookies go together like a handful of Trefoils and a glass of milk (am I right?) I love the cookie season because it’s a chance for our girls to get out in the community and tell the world what Girl Scouts is all about!
As your troop is preparing for the sale there are a few things that I HIGHLY suggest you do:
- Work on a Financial Literacy Badge—These badges are available for every program grade level and are geared toward prep for the cookie season so now is the best time of the year for your troop to earn them. You can find the activity plans for them here.
- Talk about Goal Setting—Have girls set their individual goal and decide on a troop goal for packages sold. The girls may want to look through the cookie rewards flier to help identify what they want to work towards. All girls were also mailed a fun poster where they can write down their goals.
- Earn the Cookie Activity Pin—Satisfying the Cookie Activity Pin Requirements as a troop is a great way to prepare for the sale and earn a pin for that work!
- Hold a Family Cookie Meeting—Family meetings are CRUCIAL to having a successful cookie season. It’s a time when you can gather everyone together to discuss expectations, deadlines, goals, rewards, and all of fun that’s in store!
As a troop leader, you should have received a Cookie Booth Kit and Cookie Program Guidebook from your service unit (if you haven’t received these yet, contact your service unit cookie manager, if you don’t know who that is, contact us and we can assist you). I hope you have found them as helpful as I have—I love when guides “break it down” for me and the kit and guidebook do just that! There’s also great information, printables, videos, tips, and our Cookie Program Training that can all be found on our website. If you’re having trouble locating the information you need, have questions, or need some additional support please reach out!
