It is the responsibility of River Valleys employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, or anyone else with access to maintain the confidentiality of all proprietary, privileged, or sensitive information (confidential information) to which they are exposed while serving in their role—whether this information involves a staff person, volunteer, girl, or River Valleys business in general.
Standards
- Confidential information is defined as any non-public information or communication (printed or electronic) that contains personally identifiable information about River Valleys members, donors, or staff; information that could potentially identify River Valleys members, donors, or staff; and any information or communication that is marked or otherwise identified as confidential by River Valleys or Girl Scouts of the USA.
- River Valleys employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, or anyone else with access are prohibited from discussing or sharing confidential information with unauthorized individuals.
- Authorized individual is defined as a person with legitimate reason to access confidential information relevant to their role on behalf of River Valleys.
- Examples of authorized individuals include but are not limited to staff, individuals appointed to a service unit, troop, or council-sponsored committee volunteer role, program partners, and contracted vendors.
- Failure to comply with this policy and its standards will result in consequences up to and including termination of employment, removal from Girl Scout volunteer roles, termination of contract(s), and possible legal action under local, state, and federal laws.
