We did it! Thanks to your outstanding efforts, it’s time to put the wraps on this cookie season. Read on for our annual cookie survey, our final sales results, information on our 2022 Snacks & Magazines Program, and important reminders to download reports as Smart Cookies access will end during the summer. This will be our final post in The Cookie Press this season as we bid a fond farewell to our sweet friend Katie the Koala and start the work on cookies 2023. Speaking of 2023, you can renew your membership for the next Girl Scout year and become an Early Bird now through June 30! Troops can earn an additional .10/package sold in the 2023 Cookie Program by meeting the target per girl average (PGA) and qualifying as an Early Bird troop (psst-Juliettes can too!).
Cookie Program Volunteer Survey
Now that the dust has settled, it’s time to reflect on the 2022 cookie season. Your input and perspective are incredibly valuable as we start to shape next year’s program. Please complete the survey by Friday, June 17. We appreciate your feedback.
A Message from ABC Bakers

Dear Girl Scouts River Valleys Cookie Volunteer,
As a proud partner of the Girl Scout Cookie Program and the many cookie entrepreneurs fueling their Girl Scout opportunities and adventures, ABC Bakers knows the impact and importance of all that you do to support girls. This was a difficult season for many, and we thank you for your patience as we worked through the impact of the worldwide COVID19-related supply chain issues. We understand your frustration, and can assure you that we had all hands on deck, at all levels, working harder than ever in this incredibly complex time in history.
This is our 85th year serving Girl Scouts. While we are proud of our partnership, we regret not being able to fulfill each of Girl Scouts of River Valley’s cookie orders on time and in full as planned. We will do many things differently next year as we work to control all that we can and insulate ourselves further from gaps that cause a lack of service. The issues are big and the solutions will need to be bold on all sides. We are committed to making positive changes so the Cookie Program can continue to thrive for decades to come. The Hearthside-ABC team shares your passion making the world a better place and we appreciate your dedication to serving girls.
Sincerely,

Snacks & Magazines Mascot and Go Day
Announcing our 2022 Snacks & Magazines Program dates! Go Day (A.k.a. the first day of the sale) is Monday, September 26 with the sale ending later in October. We’ll share more information over the summer including the delicious new snack items and the Girl Scout rewards as we “Go Bright Ahead” into the fall. We hope your troop will join our new gal pal the Hawaiian Monk Seal on her adventures starting in September!
End of Cookie Season Sales Results
Six plus weeks and countless hours managing the cookie sale-it all added up to some tree-mendous results. Thanks to the massive teamwork from our Girl Scouts and volunteers, we are pleased to share the end-of-season cookie totals. Check out the news on the final numbers in our 2022 Cookie Program-By the Numbers end of season wrap-up!
It was our second season of offering a philanthropic reward option for Girl Scouts through our Koala Krew program and once again, the donations are making an impact in our communities. Our Girl Scouts donated over $11,000 to the Animal Humane Society. The staff at the Animal Humane Society wanted to share a video “thank you” with the entire Koala Krew.
From Girl Scouts that sold their first packages of cookies to the Girl Scouts that sold thousands, we applaud the outstanding success of ALL River Valleys Girl Scouts who flexed all kinds of creativity and innovation during this entire season.
2023 Cookie Mascot
Get ready to flip for our next cookie mascot! We welcome the dolphin into our cookie mascot club. What’s her name? What day can we start selling cookies? What else is new this year? Whoa, we know you and your Girl Scouts have many questions. We’ll be putting all those ingredients together this summer and will share a sneak peek coming this fall.
Product Program Advisory Committee Applications Open
The Product Program Advisory Committee advises the Product Program Team on matters related to the fall Snacks & Magazines program and the spring Cookie Program. Applications are being accepted now for committee openings for the upcoming membership year. Do you have a passion for Product Programs, want to share your bold ideas, and be a champion for Girl Scout entrepreneurship programs? Take the first step to learn more about the committee and view the application form today. Applications will be accepted through June 30.
Distributing Rewards to Girl Scouts
Your Service Unit Cookie Manager (SUCM) will connect with you when the rewards are ready for pickup.
Before you pick up your items:
- Log into Smart Cookies
- Select Current from the Reports tab and print a copy of the Recognition Order Summary by Troop Report to verify the counts of each item with your Service Unit.
Initial Order Boost Bar and Online Rewards
The Initial Order Boost Bars and Online rewards will not appear in your reports. Your Service Unit Cookie Manager (SUCM) will have a packing list for these items. The Initial Order Boost Bars are given to each Girl Scout selling at the time of the initial order. Your SUCM will have a packing list by girl for the Online patch, the “I Sold 100” Online Boost Bar and the Selfie Ring Light. Take a photo of this packing list with your smartphone, or jot down the information for your records to note which Girl Scouts have received these items.
Verify Reward Counts with Families
- Log into Smart Cookies
- Select Current from the Reports tab and print a copy of the Recognition Order Summary by Girl Report to distribute items to Girl Scouts. Set up a date/time schedule and inform families of the opportunity to pick up their items.
- Verify the items with the parent/guardian to ensure the Girl Scouts receive their correct rewards.
- Pro Tips: Have the parent/guardian sign your copy of the Recognition Order Summary Report to acknowledge they have received all items.
If a Girl Scout earned the small Katie the Koala plush at the 235-package level, remind them the plush will not arrive until this fall. Each Girl Scout who made this selection will instead receive an elephant plush and a note explaining the delay.
For Girl Scouts that sold 25+ packages, the incorrect theme patch was sent in the Service Unit shipments. The correct theme patch has been shipped and should arrive this week. ABC Bakers apologizes for this error. Girl Scouts can keep both patches.
For Girl Scouts that earned the Cookie Combo Personalized patch after sending 15 emails during the Snacks & Magazines Program and selling 300 packages of cookies this season, these patches will be sent directly to the Girl Scouts with arrival by August.

Here’s the latest information to copy, paste, and forward to the families in your troop:
Access to Smart Cookies will be closing on July 15 for the summer. Customer contacts that Girl Scouts entered in their accounts will not roll over into the next cookie season. You can log into Smart Cookies and export a list of contacts, which will make uploading those contacts super easy for sending e-cards in 2023.
How to Export Contacts:
- Go to My Orders and select My Contacts. The “Export” button is on the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
How to Print a Report of Orders from a Girl Scout’s Online Sales Link
- Go to My Orders and select Manage My Orders. Then click on Print Report for a full listing of online customer orders, which includes the cookie varieties.
Cookie Reward Shipment Update
Late last week, all Service Unit volunteers who received the cookie rewards were notified by ABC Bakers of an error with the theme patch at the 25-package level received in these shipments. The correct theme patch has now been shipped and should arrive by the end of the week. Girl Scouts that sold 25+ packages can be provided with both theme patches. While this may be the final Cookie Press of the 2022 cookie season, we will be sure to alert you when the small Katie the Koala plush will arrive at your doorstep later this fall.
Reward Issue Reports
Thank you for taking the time to carefully count all the cookie reward items in your Service Unit reward shipments and verify the totals against the packing slips. If there are issues with the totals received, report the issue to us using our Cookie Rewards Issues Form. We’ll work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We ask that all rewards issues be reported to us no later than June 15.
Refer to The Cookie Press: Edition 20 from May 19 for complete info on rewards shipments.
Note: For troops that reached a 435+ PGA and ordered additional hoodies, those hoodies will be mailed directly to the troop later this month. These items are not included in your Service Unit shipments.
