We are so excited to bring the Fall Snacks & Magazines Program to you! This program is a simple (and we really do mean simple) and a fun way to get girls working on their business skills and earning rewards, while bringing in proceeds that the troop can use to fund their Girl Scout experiences. Did you know?
- The average troop earns $100 in proceeds
- Snacks and rewards are delivered in one swoop (right before Thanksgiving)
- Customers love our products (and the new Birthday Mix is sure to be a hit)
Before we get started, we’d also like to say thank you for volunteering to support your Girl Scouts. None of this would be possible without you!
You will receive these bi-weekly updates as the program continues. We have a lot of information to share with you as we kick-off this fun program.
Snacks & Magazines Rally
What better way to kick off the year than with a super fun rally? Your troops and girls can learn more about the program, sharpen their business skills, and win fun prizes. Simply register for the rally through EventBrite and we will send an email on September 21 with the Zoom link to access the event. Can’t wait to see you then!
Troop Fall Product Manager Training
There are two quick-and-easy online trainings to help you get started. The Troop Fall Product Manager training takes less than 30 minutes to complete and gives you an overview of Snack & Magazines. It will cover the program, your responsibilities, and deadlines. The other training is in M2OS, the online system where you will manage snack orders, see online orders, enter rewards, and track finances. The brief training video will automatically start once you log in.
M2OS – Your Fall Program Portal Online
M2OS is your online home base for managing your troop during the Fall Product Program, and where your girls will be able to sell online. You should have received an email with a link to register your M2OS account earlier this week (September 8). The link is sent to the email address we have on record for your volunteer role. If you didn’t receive the link contact us for assistance. Remember to check your junk mail folder in case the email has landed in this location. Be sure to add firstname.lastname@example.org to your safe sender list or address book to make sure you get emails from M2OS in the future. Girls will not be able to access M2OS until Go Day, September 25.
Our M2OS Quick Tips sheets are great resources for navigating the system before, during, and after the sale. Check out the troop and family sheets to learn all the things you and your girls can do in M2OS.
Hosting a Family Meeting
While we know family meetings could look a little different for your troop this year, it’s a good idea to touch base (a quick email will also do!) with your families prior to the sale. If you do have an in-person meeting, be sure to check out and follow our in-person guidance. Distribute your girl materials, explain the participation options, and remind families to complete the online Family Responsibility and Permission Form. Review important dates and deadlines and when girls in your troop will collect money for snack order card sales (either at the time of order or at the time of delivery). Sales can be made in several low-contact or no-contact ways including phone calls, video chats, or in-person using social distancing practices. Use the Family Guide and the snack order card to assist in your family meeting!
Fall Product Materials
Troop materials are being sent directly to troops this year. All troops registered for 2021 membership year will receive the following:
- One Troop Guide
- Instant rewards—These are coin-sized envelopes with accompanying instructions on a half sheet of paper. See below for more info!
- Girl Materials (one per girl)
- One Snack Order Card
- One Family Guide
If you need more materials, complete the 2020 Fall Snacks and Magazines Materials Request Form. You can also download materials from our Troop Fall Product Manager Resources page. (Order cards will be available on Go Day.) If your troop isn’t registered for 2021 yet, don’t worry, there’s still time to register and participate!
Online Family Permission Form
New this year! Girls/families will complete their Family Permission Forms online. Direct families to the Family Responsibility and Permission Form as you connect with them to pick-up program materials. Check to see which families have submitted the form by filtering through Family Responsibility and Permission Form Completion List for your troop number.
Here is some sample text you can send to any families whose girls will be participating in Snacks & Magazines but who have not filled out the form:
Hello! I am so excited that your Girl Scout has decided to participate in the Fall Snacks & Magazines program! Please remember that your girl cannot begin selling until you have submitted the Online Permission Form. If you have any questions about the form or need help filling it out, let me know.
New this Year: Instant Rewards
Drumroll…..This season, we are introducing instant rewards! Review the instructions enclosed with your troop materials to learn how to distribute them, but here’s an overview:
To qualify for an instant reward, a girl must be one of the first to:
- Send 15 e-mails through M2OS and
- Complete one online sale. This can be a snack item or a magazine
- Confirm to you that they have completed the actions
Note: not all girls earn instant rewards. Each troop received a minimum of two envelopes. The envelopes are given to the first girls to complete the actions listed above
Every girl who earns an instant reward will receive the special charm (for a bracelet, backpack, or necklace) enclosed. However, a select few of these instant reward envelopes also contain a “ticket” for an even bigger prize!
Service Unit Fall Product Manager Training
If you have not done so already, please complete the online Service Unit Fall Product Manager Training. You will be able to select a training option based on your experience-level (either a new or returning volunteer), and it will take less than 30 minutes. Check out our M2OS Quick Tips to help you manage your service unit’s sale, as well as help troops with questions about M2OS.
Troop Materials & Reach-out
As you know, program materials are being sent directly to troops this year instead of to service units. Feel free to hand out the extra materials sent to you as needed. Once you run out, please have troops in need of more materials fill out this survey with the quantity and items that they need.
Since all registered troops will be receiving these materials, including some who have never participated in Snacks & Magazines, we recommend reaching out to all troops in your service unit with a brief run-down of the program. Here is a sample email you can send introducing your troops to the program:
As you may know, Girl Scouts River Valleys’ Fall Snacks & Magazines program will start on September 25th! This friends and family sale of magazines and snack items is a quick and easy way for troops and girls to earn proceeds early—and practice their skills before cookie season! This season even features the chance for girls to earn instant rewards for reaching their goals quickly! You will be alerted when fall product program materials are on their way to you, in the meantime learn more About Snacks & Magazines. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you might have about the program.
Service Unit Bonus
The Service Unit Bonus has been revamped for this year. Service units can earn $5.00 per online girl participator up to a maximum of $350. For a girl to qualify as an online participator, she must:
- Create her M2OS account
- Send 15 emails through M2OS
- Sell three online products (any combo of snack items and/or magazines)
Watch for an email with more details coming before Go Day. Inform troops of the bonus and ask them to encourage girls to set up and launch their online account once the program begins.
You should have received a link to register your M2OS account earlier this week for service unit access. If you also are a troop volunteer, you will have access to both the troop and service unit from the same link. If you have any issues, email us at email@example.com.
