Welcome troop cookie managers and troop leaders to The Cookie Press!
This weekly e-newsletter brings you important information during the cookie season, including details about contests, updates, important dates, and deadlines. There will be a a section of The Cookie Press reserved specifically for service unit volunteers. For Service Unit Cookie Managers:
Troop Training & Materials
Your service unit cookie manager will be contacting you soon about training and getting you the materials needed to get your troop started with the Cookie Program. New troop cookie managers are encouraged to take our online troop training before the in-person training, so you can come ready with any questions you may have. (The online training will be available on the volunteer website on December 9.) Your service unit cookie manager will also have you read through and sign a Troop Cookie Manager Responsibility Form, which is required for your participation in the program.
Smart Cookies Access
Your access to Smart Cookies, our online cookie software, will be available starting Monday, December 9. In Smart Cookies you will see your initial troop roster, which includes registered girls and two troop volunteers.
Selection for adult volunteers into Smart Cookies is as follows:
- Troop volunteers that are registered for 2020 membership year and have a valid background check are eligible for upload into the system.
- The system will upload two registered adult volunteers, with priority given to two troop cookie managers, or the troop cookie manager and a troop leader.
- If the troop has no troop cookie manager recognized, the system will upload two troop leaders.
If you find that girls are missing on your Smart Cookies roster, please contact Girl Scouts River Valleys and we will be happy to add them.
Please add firstname.lastname@example.org as a safe or trusted sender for your email to make sure you receive the access email.
Once you gain access to Smart Cookies:
- Update your troop information, including your contact information and girls’ t-shirt sizes.
- Be sure to verify your bank account information in Smart Cookies by Cookie Go Day, February 15. If the bank account information is missing, enter it manually.
- A few tips to help you get started:
- Smart Cookies works best in Google Chrome. Other browsers, like Internet Explorer, may leave out important functions.
- Smart Cookies will only allow you to have one tab open at a time.
- When entering any notes, do not use special characters (e.g., #, ?, $, *, / , etc.), as this may cause an error message.
For detailed screenshots and a tutorial video of these steps, see the Getting Started section of the Smart Cookies Guide, which will be going live the week of December 9.
To access reports from last year, hover over the reports tab and select Archive. Select the 2018-2019 season to find the list of reports.
We are happy to announce our continues partnership with Cub Foods for the 2020 Cookie Program. Cub provides a warm, indoor space for girls and troops to set up their cookie booths. In addition, Cub provides a table and chairs inside all their locations in our council. Troops who attend a booth at Cub will receive an exclusive Cub patch! These booths will be available to sign up through the booth lottery and First-Come, First-Served selection processes.
Cookie Conference 2020
Our in-person training will be taking place this Saturday, and we can’t wait to see you! If you are unable to attend, our online service unit training will be available on our website the week of December 9.
We’re excited to hear all about your Cookie Rally events! Service units can purchase cookie samples for rallies at $1.50 a package, which includes free shipping.
When ordering cookies, you can also request a reward kit to show girls the awesome items available this year. These kits also include super cool temporary tattoos and Tyvek cookie bracelets that are sure to be a hit—but be sure to order your kits early, because they are only available while supplies last. Orders must be placed by December 20 and will be shipping the week of January 13. No late orders will be accepted.
Cookie Rally patches will be available for purchase in Girl Scouts River Valleys shops.
Training kits (which include girl and troop materials, cookie policies, tip sheets and more) will be handed out this Saturday at the Cookie Conference and mailed out next week to registered service unit cookie managers who could not attend. If a cookie manager has not been identified for your service unit, the training kit will be sent to the service unit manager.
