Let your local press and media know about your troop’s plans for Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend!
At Girl Scouts River Valleys, we do our best to report stories and news about the awesome adventures every Girl Scout is embarking on across our council. With over 37,000 members, this is no easy feat—that’s where you come in.
If your story is featured in your local press, let us know by sending a link to the article or feature to firstname.lastname@example.org. Troops whose stories get picked up by a media outlet are eligible to win a Girl Scouts Love State Parks patch (this offer is limited to the first 100 participants).

Tips for writing your press announcement
- Use the press announcement template to help guide your formatting. It’s best to cut and paste the template into the body of your email rather than sending it as an attachment.
- Use a catchy headline. Reporters and news outlets are often flooded with media requests, so grab their attention with a compelling headline.
- If you don’t hear back from the media/news agency after a few days, it’s okay to follow up with them. Send an email or call to ask if they’ve considered your story for publication.
- Proof your announcement a few times before sending it out. Check your facts, grammar, and spelling.
- Be prepared to respond to any questions they may have. Be yourself and speak about your personal experience.
- When referring to our council, use the full name (Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys or Girl Scouts River Valleys), never the acronym.
- Always use “Girl Scouting” or “Girl Scouts,” never just “scouting” or “scouts.”
- Use “Girl Scout Brownie,” not “Brownie Girl Scout” (this applies for all other Girl Scout program grade levels).
